Update: Motorcyclist dies as truck overturns in Marsa, victim named Ajay Shrestha

A motorcyclist died this morning on Triq Aldo Moro in Marsa, after metal objects transported by a truck fell on him as the vehicle overturned.

The victim is a 28-year-old Nepalese residing in Msida. He was named by TVM as Ajay Shrestha.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m., police said.

The police said Malta Independent preliminary indications are that the truck driver – a 56-year-old man from Cospicua – lost control of the vehicle he was driving towards Valletta.

The truck struck the center strip and overturned on the other side of the multi-lane road.

Metal objects transported in the truck fell on the motorcyclist and two other cars traveling in the opposite direction towards Paola.

The cars were a Hyundai i20 driven by a 39-year-old Moldovan and an Audi A1 driven by a 52-year-old Swieqi.

A street lamp on the central strip also overturned on the other side of the road.

The biker was rushed to hospital and police later confirmed he was dead.

The other people involved in the accident suffered no injuries.

Part of the road has been temporarily closed to traffic. An operation to remove the truck and debris began later Wednesday.

Magistrate Astrid May Grima is conducting a judicial inquiry and investigations are underway.
