Truck kills UR student on campus

A Rajshahi University student was killed and another injured when a truck rammed his motorbike outside the university’s Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall on Tuesday night.

Deceased Himel is a student of the Faculty of Fine Arts, senior student of the Faculty of Fine Arts Monu Mohon Bappa.

Bappa said construction work on two residence halls is continuing at the university. “A truck rammed the motorbike when it reached the crossing in front of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall, leaving Himel dead,” he said.

Bappa said the injured student was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition was also critical.

As news of the student’s death spread across campus, agitated students set the truck on fire. Later, four other trucks were also set on fire.

The agitated students then proceeded to the main gate of the university where they put the blockade by burning tires and also continued the demonstrations in front of the residence of the vice-chancellor until the tabling of this report at around 10:00 p.m.
