Three people die after motorcycle mistake on Konabari flyover collides head-on with car
The incident happened on the flyover around 11:30 a.m. Friday, Konabari Police Station Deputy Inspector Sakhawat Imtiaz said.
The victims were identified as Md Raju Mia, 25, a resident of Ullapara Upazila of Sirajganj, Md Shahin, 30, from Nilphamari, and Md Shamim Mrida, 30, from Barguna.
Raisa, Raju’s two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, identified by only one name, was injured in the incident. He and Shahin lived in separate houses in the Dewaliabari College Gate area of Konabari as tenants.
“The victims were transporting meat to a relative in the Bymail area on a motorbike from the Konabari College Gate area and were driving on the wrong side. The vehicle collided head-on with a private car bound for Tangail after reaching the mid-flight,” Imtiaz said.
“Shahin and Shamim were ejected from the vehicle and fell on impact. The other two were on the airlift.”
“Residents rushed them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur where the doctor pronounced Raju, Shahin and Shamim dead.”
The child was taken to the National Institute of Trauma and Orthopedic Rehabilitation or Pongu Hospital in Dhaka.
Efforts are underway to take legal action over the accident, Imtiaz added.
