Start of Ultraviolet F77 production trials: a high-performance electric motorcycle will be launched this year
From the start, the F77 was intended to be an electric motorcycle for enthusiasts. It has been in development for over five years. In 2019, the F77 motorcycle was first revealed with many high-tech features. The motorcycle was expected to be launched by 2020. However, the pandemic had other plans for the brand.
Ultraviolet continued development of the F77 even amid the COVID-19-induced lockdowns and used the extra time to add more range and upgrade the technologies used in the bike.
Narayan Subramaniam, co-founder of Ultraviolet, is quoted as saying, “We were functional and this year went by just getting the packs and the cell maker. Another thing that happened was going from the 18 650 in 21,700 format. Our first four years of battery technology was designed entirely for 18,650, but has seen the industry evolve. What we originally expected was that the second generation of the F77 would go up to 21,700 , but this Covid window that we had, we accelerated this development.
As a result of the new development, the bike’s range should now be around 200 kilometers, which is significantly higher than the 130-150 kilometers promised in 2019. In terms of styling, however, nothing much has changed, which is a good thing. Aviation-inspired design has always been brilliant.
A BLDC motor that develops 33 hp and 90 Nm powers the Ultraviolette F77. This allows the bike to have a top speed of just under 150 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 60 km/h takes just under 2.8 seconds, while reaching the 100 km/h mark takes around 7.5 seconds.
Now the bike has reached trial production. At the trial production event were key suppliers, vendors and partners who supply components that aid in the production of the electric motorcycle. This includes well-known brands like Bosch, Gabriel, Minda, Brembo, etc.
This comes shortly after the brand held a trial event in August. On the 75th Independence Day, several pilots along with members of the Indian Armed Forces were invited to test drive the production version of the F77 at the Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited runway near Hosur.
Thoughts on Ultraviolette F77 production trials beginning before launch
The Ultraviolet F77 is one of those electric motorcycles that even gasoline enthusiasts might love. Even though we haven’t ridden the bike, the design of the bike and the riding triangle seems almost perfect. Plus, the claimed performance specs look really, really good. The bike will be launched later this year and we can’t wait to ride it.
