MARLBOROUGH, MA – Welcome to the August 9 edition of the Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (as well as a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.

This week we start in Marlborough, which recently opened a new elementary school named after three town brothers who died in action during the Civil War. Marlborough has a law that any new public facility – including streets, parks and schools – must bear the name of a deceased veteran.

1) Marlborough

The Shawna J. Larassa motorcycle tour returns on Saturday. The ride, one of New England’s largest, raises money for a scholarship fund named after Larassa, who died in 2009 at the age of 19 in a car crash in Dudley.

2) Framingham

More car wash activities in Framingham this week. The Zoning Appeal Board will hold a hearing on Wednesday over a plan to demolish and rebuild the car wash at 1183 Worcester Road. This is one of two ongoing car wash developments along Route 9.

3) Sudbury

The Friends of the Goodnow Library will be hosting their first outdoor film event of the summer on Friday. The “Friends Flicks-in-Cars-Under-the-Stars” will screen the animated film “The Incredibles”.

4) Wayland

On Monday, Earth Well Farms will speak to the Select Board about a medical marijuana facility it wants to open in a building at 526 Boston Post Road. Wayland has a zoning ban on adult cannabis facilities.

5) Natick

The city is preparing for a potentially significant number of events this fall. The board of directors will decide on Wednesday whether or not to grant permission for events such as a public rosary, a suicide prevention walk, the Spooktacular festival and the Natick Days.

6) Milford

The state’s VaxBus will be at Stacy Middle School on Monday. In addition to the free Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, the first 100 to get vaccinated will receive a $ 25 gift card at a local grocery store.

7) Worcester

After a lengthy renovation, the Worcester Public Library System will hold an opening ceremony for the main city center branch on Thursday. A ribbon cut will take place at 4 p.m. that day at 3 Salem Square.
