Man dies after motorbike crashes into parked tractor-trailer

PHUKET: An unidentified motorcyclist died when he crashed into the back of a parked tractor-trailer earlier today (September 22), police have confirmed.

Lieutenant Colonel Kiatjorn Amloy, deputy chief of investigations at Phuket City Police, was briefed on the accident, which happened on the northbound bypass road in Rassada at around 2.20am.

Arriving at the scene about 20 meters before the PTT gas station, police and Kusoldharm Foundation rescue workers found a Krabi-registered UD Quester truck with a trailer and a badly damaged Honda Wave motorcycle with Trang license plates. just behind. The front of the bike was nearly destroyed by the impact.

The trailer truck was parked on the side of the road. Police noted that the truck’s cab bore the “786 Transport Company” logo.

The motorcyclist was found on the road nearby. The man had a head injury and was unconscious. Kusoldharm rescuers performed CPR at the scene but were unable to revive the man. The body was then taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy.

The police could not immediately identify the biker because he had no documents in his pockets or in his gray backpack. A cell phone (presumably belonging to the motorcyclist) was found at the scene, but the device was found to be broken.

Police say there were two people in the cabin of the UD Quester at the time of the accident – Sina Pairote, 37, and his girlfriend. Both gave statements to police, although officers did not reveal what exactly they said.

An eyewitness told officers the motorcycle was traveling north at high speed and had just crashed into the back of the truck which was parked with its tail lights off. The investigation is ongoing.
