Gurgaon: Woman and granddaughter killed after truck hits motorcycle
A 46-year-old woman and her three-year-old granddaughter were killed Thursday after a truck hit a motorcycle on Southern Peripheral Road (SPR).
Police said the woman’s husband, who was riding the motorcycle, was injured and an FIR was registered on Friday after his statement was recorded.
Police said the incident happened around 2:35 p.m. when Gaje Pal (44), a resident of Faazilpur village, his wife Inesh Devi and their granddaughter were on their way to a relative’s house in Kherki Daula. Gaje Pal was riding the motorcycle and was about to turn left onto SPR when a truck allegedly struck their bike from behind.
Pal, who is a daily bet, said in his statement: “The truck was going at a decent speed and it hit my bike from behind. The three of us were thrown on the road. My wife was crushed under a wheel of the truck, while my granddaughter was also seriously injured.
Pal said he was rushed to a civilian hospital by police for treatment.
Subhash Boken, spokesperson for the Gurgaon police force, said: “We received information about the accident at 2:40 pm. Two victims died instantly. The complainant was rushed to a civilian hospital. His condition is stable now. The accused truck driver escaped and we are checking CCTV cameras in the area to find him. “
An FIR has been registered under Sections 279 (reckless driving or driving on public roads), 304-A (negligent death) and 337 (causing injury endangering the life or personal safety of another) of the Indian Penal Code at Badshahpur Police Station.
