Crash involving overturned truck injures 5 at State Highway 417 tollbooth in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – An accident Saturday morning involving an overturned truck injured five people, including three children, and forced the temporary closure of all northbound E-PASS lanes on State Route 417 at John Young Parkway Toll Plaza (mile marker 7), according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a sedan traveling northbound in the inside lane of SR-417 made an improper lane change to the outside lane in the direct path of the truck, which was being driven by an elderly Orlando man. 54 years old.

At 10:34 a.m., the rear right of the sedan struck the front left of the truck, causing the truck to overturn and collide with a concrete wall barrier, guardrail and pole while its contents – a load of construction debris – was spilling onto the roadway, soldiers said.

According to an accident report, the driver of the truck and the occupants of the sedan – all four from Salisbury, Maryland – suffered minor injuries in the crash. Soldiers said the sedan was driven by a 38-year-old man and was carrying three child passengers: a 16-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy.

The occupants of the sedan remained at the scene of the crash while the driver of the truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the report said.

The crash caused traffic to be rerouted north through toll booths in the area. At 2:55 p.m., all lanes were reopened, soldiers said.

No other details were shared. The accident is still under investigation.
