Cops nab two for allegedly torching 48 motorcycles and four cars
KUALA LUMPUR: Two men have been arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed 48 motorbikes and four cars at the PPR Intan Baiduri apartments here.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the two suspects, aged 31 and 39, were arrested on Friday March 4.
“We arrested the young suspect around 2.30pm while the other suspect was arrested around four hours later.
“They were both arrested in the apartments,” he said when contacted on Saturday March 5.
He said the 31-year-old suspect had tested positive for methamphetamine.
“The motive for the case is still under investigation,” he said.
It was reported that police were alerted at 4.21am on Friday March 4 to the case.
The fire and rescue service arrived on the scene and managed to put out the fire at 4:56 a.m.
Forensic investigators from the police and fire and rescue service also attended the scene to identify the cause of the fire.
No one was injured during the accident.
Initial investigations revealed that the fire started from a motorbike which was parked at the main entrance to the motorbike parking lot.
Estimated losses exceeded RM300,000.
The case was classified as arson under Article 435 of the Penal Code.
