A truck overtakes a man, two girls on the way to school – Newspaper
KARACHI: A fast truck mounted with a cement mixer overturned a young man and his two little girls setting off on a motorbike on Sharea Faisal on Tuesday leaving emotional scenes on the town’s main thoroughfare.
Eyewitnesses to the incident and others present expressed extreme anger at the uncontrolled traffic of heavy goods vehicles, which are driving despite the daytime traffic ban.
It was in the morning when the driver of the heavy vehicle while overtaking another vehicle near Awami Markaz hit a motorcycle from behind and overturned the two-wheeler.
The fatal incident left all three riders – the man and his two daughters – crushed to death on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Zaheeruddin, 39, Shija Zaheer, 12, and Batool Zaheer, nine.
A resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Zaheer left home to drop off his daughters at school on the main Korangi highway as per his daily routine.
The incident has sparked extreme anger among local residents, road users and people who witnessed the incident.
They forced the driver to stop the vehicle and grabbed it before handing it over to the police.
The driver of the cement mixer was identified as Zafar, who was later formally arrested and arrested.
The strong reaction from those on site and the videos later shared on social media of the deadly incident prompted an immediate response from law enforcement authorities. Traffic DIG Ahmed Nawaz Cheema has suspended Tipu Sultan traffic police section officer.
“Traffic officers have also received directives to ensure the application of the traffic ban on heavy vehicles during school hours between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and then from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the evening,” an official said.
