6 dead as truck drives into roadside tea stand

Six people were crushed to death and two others were seriously injured when a truck crashed into a roadside tea stand near the village of Ahirauli under Mohammadabad police station on National Road 31 in the district of Ghazipur early Tuesday morning.

Police Superintendent Ram Badan Singh said eight people were sitting in the stall sipping morning tea around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday when the truck coming from Ballia ran over them.

Virendra Ram (40), Satyendra Thakur (28), Golu (14) and Ramashanker (62) died instantly while Shyam Bihari Kushwaha (45) and Chandramohan (50) succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

After the incident, an angry mob grabbed the truck driver and the cleaner and brutally beat them, seriously injuring them both. After the incident, local villagers blocked the highway for more than three hours.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sorrow over the deaths in the crash and called on the district authorities to compensate the families of the deceased and provide adequate treatment for the injured.
