3 HP policemen killed in truck-bike collision in Una

Hamirpur (HP), September 23 (PTI) Three members of the Himachal Pradesh police force were killed in a collision between a high-speed truck and a motorcycle in Una district, a senior official said on Thursday.

Two officers died instantly near the Ashapuri barrier in Gagret tehsil of Una district on Wednesday evening, Una Police Commissioner Arijit Sen Thakur said.

The third agent died while being taken to hospital for treatment, he added.

The three officers were identified as Vishal (22) and Manoj Kumar (23), both residents of Bhoranj in Hamirpur district, and Subhash Kumar (24) from Badsar in Hamirpur district, a-t -he adds.

They were assigned to the 4th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) at Jangleberi in Hamirpur district and were recently assigned to the Ashapuri Interstate Barrier, he added.

Later Thursday, Nadaun Police in Hamirpur District arrested the driver of the truck involved in the crash, Hamirpur Police Superintendent Akriti Sharma said, adding that the vehicle was confiscated.

The police were questioning the driver about the crime he had committed before fleeing.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and former Chief Minister PK Dhumal mourned the deaths of the three policemen and sent their condolences to their families.

An official spokesperson in Shimla said CM Thakur expressed sorrow over the deaths of police officers in an unfortunate road accident in Gagret in Una district.

Expressing his sincere condolences to the bereaved family members, the Chief Minister prayed to the Almighty to give peace to the deceased souls and the strength to the bereaved family members to endure this irreparable loss, he added. PTI DJI HDA
